How Safe is your Password

by - October 24, 2019

On a brute force attack, I could bet that the password that you use to unlock your phone could be cracked in less than an hour. According to statista.com, an average gen-z Millennial unlocks their phone, an average of 79 times a day, so it makes sense that none of us wants to have weird ASCII symbol in the combination of a password.

However when we come to the sensitive stuff like the password to your Microsoft account which may in extension serve as your desktop password or your google password which gives access to all your google accounts (which may in-turn include the password to your android phone at times) then you need to get more serious.

For my google password, I use a combination of 14 characters which includes uppercase and lowercase characters, some numbers and some characters (full ASCII) on a brute-force attack you'd need time more than the age of the earth to crack it. However, it is still crack-able on other techniques. (you could check your strength here)

In conclusion, most likely no one cares about your password unless you are Bill Gates (in which case, Heeey Bill, I'm a fan). It's still quite important that you use a strong password, you don't want to get hacked by an Indian, kindergarten kid, at least a hacker with some reputation, plus you never know when you'll become a billionaire.
