Memory management of the human brain!
A brain is more like a computer...
That much you know.
A brain is mainly the central processing unit of the human body.
It also has storage too.
In this post, we will concentrate on storage.
1.Size of the human brain
The human brain can hold 2.5 petabytes of data.
Amazing... Right?
To make it simpler, as a number, A petabyte is 1024 Terabytes (TB) which is 1million gigabytes (GB). Therefore it holds 2.5 million gigabytes of digital data.
Compare with the storage of your PC, smartphone, tablet, etc.
For better comparison
If you were to watch TV (Television) continuously 2.5 petabytes is enough to store 300 years of continuous TV shows to be able to use up all the storage of your brain.
Also...
The brain is capable of holding 4.7 billion books.
This is through the help of Synapses.1 synapse can store 4.7 bits of information.
So this gives you a go-ahead to go and explore all you wish to explore, learn all you want to learn and acquire all possible skills you want.
2.How your brain manages its storage
Well, it may be so hard to imagine that one never forgets anything they see, hear, learn, etc.
It may be difficult to remember but trust me its there in your brain.
The brain memory is divided into three major sections: ;
1.Conscious memory
2.Sub-conscious memory
3.Unconcious memory
1.Conscious memory
This part is responsible for storing the information that is frequently used by the person and also responsible for the reflex data.
Information in this part of memory does not need to be remembered as it is readily there.
E.g What is your name?
How long did you take to process that?
Also, where is your leg?
Did you take long to recognize that?
If you frequently use information or memorize it for long then it is stored in this part.
Also, new information is stored here and slowly drifts to the second part if less used.
2.Sub-conscious memory
This part of the memory stores the information or data that is not used frequently but once in a while it is used or retrieved.
Information in this part takes some time to be recalled.
E.g When you were in primary school who used to sit next to the window always in class?
You haven't forgotten... Its loading and you will remember the name and all other information about the person will flow. This information is from the subconscious memory.
If the information in this part is not used at all it drifts to the last part.
3.Unconcious memory
This part contains information that was gotten once and never has been used again.
It also contains information that was gotten in without proper concentration.
Also information about things you took lightly.
All other information from the previous parts that have been ignored drift to this part of the brain memory.
This is the largest of all and contains a lot of data that you assume you forgot.
It is nearly impossible to retrieve information in this section/part. Proper techniques and skills may be needed but the simplest is meditation.
Look at this...
You have ever bought a scratch card and topped up your line right?
All those numbers are in this part of the memory. Try to close your eyes and remember at least two digits.....
How do you improve your memory power?
There are various things to do but ill only mention a few of them...
Meditation
Reading of books
Avoid being Idol
Involve yourself in activities that require you to do continuous remembrance.
The Monks are considered to have the most powerful memory capacities...
Find out what they do to achieve this!
