Out Goes The Kilo, In Comes The Quantum Electric Kilo
The default weight measuring unit The Kilo has been disbanded through a unanimous vote by over 50 Nations ushering in the Electric Kilo. The kilo a platinum-iridium alloy, cylinder which has been in use for about 129 years. The Kilo is currently stored in a vault at Saint-Cloud a suburb of Paris. The Kilo is of great value seeing that all mass related measurements are referenced to it.
The redefined kilo is expected to allow for more accurate measurements of very, very small or very, very large masses and help usher in innovations in science, industry, climate study and other fields. Unlike a physical object, the formula for the kilo, now also known as “the electric kilo,” cannot pick up particles of dust, decay with time or be dropped and damaged. It will also be a lot easier to share but will be easier to share
The impact of this change will not be felt any time soon since the current system is still in use until the 20th May 2019 and even after that most parts of the world will still be able to use the current kilo system.
The details scanty and we are still to know how exactly the Quantum Electric Kilo will be used. Kindly do share, comment and subscribe to stay updated.
